Microneedling

Fine needles create controlled microscopic injuries, and the skin responds by laying down new collagen and elastin.

How it works

The technique uses neither heat nor a chemical agent — only the skin's own healing response. That makes it a relatively safe option for darker skin tones, where the risk of pigmentation is lower than with some lasers.

The result builds over months, not days: collagen remodelling continues for up to six months after the final session, which is why the result is judged after the course, not after the first appointment.

Who it suits, and who it does not

Suitable for

  • Rolling acne scars
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture
  • Early fine lines
  • Darker skin tones where laser is harder to use

Postponed or excluded

  • Actively inflamed acne
  • Active herpes in the treatment area
  • A tendency to keloid (assessed with caution)
  • Recent isotretinoin use
What it cannot do

Deep ice-pick scarring does not respond to microneedling alone and may need adjunct procedures. And a single session is not enough for any serious objective.

Frequently asked

Microneedling — questions

Is it safe for darker skin?

Yes, and it is one of the better-suited options, because it does not rely on heat, which raises the risk of pigmentation. Aftercare and sun protection remain essential.

How many sessions?

Between three and six depending on depth, four weeks apart so healing completes before the next.

Can it be combined with PRP?

Yes, and the combination is common because the growth factors in PRP support the healing response. It is decided case by case, not applied automatically.
